Saint Ivan Crnojevic

Dear Readers!

On the 12th July 2003, the ruler and founder of Cetinje, the capital of Montenegro, Prince Ivan (Ivanbeg)  Crnojevic will be canonised by several Orthodox Christian Churches in Cetinje.

This is a truly historic event  that will vibrate through the chain of future generations of Montenegrins. The role of Saint Ivan Crnojevic in the foundation of Modern Montenegro needs to be further researched.

If we take Saint Ivan Crnojevic as the founder of the modern legal state of Montenegro, it is today more than 500 years old!

This event should be welcomed by all people of good will on whatever political side they are on and the Montenegrin Orthodox Church should be congratulated without reserve for taking such a bold and courageous initiative to honour one of our greatest citizens.

We can say without hesitation that Saint Ivan Crnojevic is to Montenegro as George Washington is to the United States of America and precedes him by 300 years!

Let the memory of this truly historic day live forever in the hearts of all Montenegrins and its true friends!

Yours faithfully,

Milan Glendza
